THE FAITHFUL WORD (list of sermons)
James R. Mooberry was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska. His parents Melvin and June had one other son named Patrick. While growing up, Jim enjoyed sports, playing football and wrestling in high school. After high school, he enrolled at the University of Nebraska where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture in 1969.
Shortly after graduation, during the height of the Vietnam War, Jim decided to join the U.S. Army. Although he never saw active combat during his enlistment, he attained the rank of Sergeant.
While serving his country, Jim realized he was being called to serve the Lord. Through the ministry of a Battalion Chaplain in the town of Kaiserlautern, Germany. Jim came to faith in Christ and was re-born. In 1971, he returned to the United States on fire for the Lord.
By divine appointment, Jim was led to Indian Hills Community Church where he studied under one of the most gifted teachers in the country, Gil Rugh. Jim was ministered to by Gil and later by the teaching ministries of S. Lewis Johnson and John MacArthur.
During this time, Jim began teaching Sunday School classes at Indian Hills and realized his greatest desire in life was to serve the Lord. In 1973, Jim met his future bride, Joyce Safranek, while attending a Bible study. They were married the following year and later went on to have two children, Jason and JoHanna.
In 1974, Jim was accepted into Dallas Theological Seminary where he received a ThM in New Testament Literature and Exegesis. He acquired an extensive background in New Testament Greek and graduated with honors in 1978.
In January of 1979, Jim and Joyce arrived in a suburb just outside of Chicago where Jim began his first full-time ministry position as Senior Pastor of the Village Church of Bartlett. He quickly became known for his gift of teaching God's Word, and the Village Church became known as a place of worship that offered teaching at the same level as a Bible college.
Because of Jim's clear teaching style, the application of God's Word is a natural result for those who study under him. As you will hear, Pastor Mooberry has a unique gift of taking the complicated and reducing it to the simple, making it easy for everyone to understand.
